Red Tree (Betulaceae)
The alder tree, which spreads pure and mixed in Thrace, Marmara surroundings, Western Black Sea and Eastern Black Sea, is a tree with brown bark and sparsely branched, which can exceed 20 m in height. It is mostly seen in cooler regions and places with moist stream beds. There are 66,357 hectares of groves and 297 hectares of coppice alder forest in our country. It has inverted egg-shaped and saw-toothed leaves with a length of 4-9 cm and a width of 3-7 cm. It enriches the soil with nitrogen due to the tubers in its roots that bind the free nitrogen of the air. The main subtypes of alder common in a wide distribution in Turkey Eastern alder (A. Glutinosa var. Oriantalis, Y), Bearded alder (A. Glutinosa var. Barbata, Y).
